Big Blocks: Free Leaf Pattern Week

Welcome back to the Big Blocks Challenge!

Need to get caught up, visit our first post to learn about the challenge and the instructions for the first block: Leaf.

As promised, here is our Leaf quilt, which I’ve titled, Leaf Pile. Without any borders, this quilt finishes to 72″ x 72″.

  • Make sure the blocks are trimmed to 18 1/2″ and lay them out in rows.
  • Turn them the direction shown or something completely different!
  • Sew the blocks into rows and rows into the quilt.
  • Stop there!

Oh, were you looking for a “quilt as desired and bind?” Nope, no such thing. Instead, stay tuned for next week when we will give you some awesome quilting ideas and free quilting patterns!

Try another colorway!

A great big thank you to Nancy Seitz for sending a picture of her project! What an adorable tote!

Nancy says, “I made two blocks and then made them into a tote. It is lined with fabric from two fat quarters–one with fish and one with various shades of green.”

May I ask for a copy of this block

Hi Bobby. You should be able to click on the images to go to the downloadable PDF of instructions and patterns. If you cannot get these to open, let me know and I can email a PDF to you and see if that option will work. ~ Sylvia Thomas, AQS Social Media Manager

I’ve tried on multiple electronic devices,
But clicking on the image of the Leaf Block as well as the Leaf Quilt neithet opened up nor downloaded the PDF for either item.
*Is there an issue with these Web pages that they do NOT link to their respective PDFS as other #FreePattern images do?

Looks like fun!

HI Sylvia, I also cannot get the downloadable PDF from click on the image – would you be so kind as to email me a pdf – my email is
Thanks, Rose

Like Bobby, I find no link to download the Leaf Pile pattern. I’ve clicked on every image on the page.

I cannot get these to open either. Please email a pdf to me. Thank you

Love the block.
Would you please email me the PDF file for Leaf Pile.

I can’t find where to download. The image just gets larger. Please help

Hi, I haven’t cut mine yet, but notice that the block is 18″ on the pattern and 18 1/2″ on the recent page that tells you to size them up to 18 1/2″. Does the pattern make them big enough for 18 1/2?

I don’t see any other links to print the block pattern (last weeks) or for this quilt layout?

For those wanting to download a PDF of the instructions, we are getting that loaded for you. I apologize for the confusion. I got ahead of our designer on this one and she is taking care of it today and getting the PDF loaded for you. Please check back. ~ Sylvia Thomas, AQS Social Media Manager
