Cutting Instructions

From the dark purple, cut:
(4) 2” x 2” squares

From the purple fabric, cut:
(1) 3 ½” x 3 ½” squares

From the light purple fabric, cut:
(2) 3 ½” x 3 ½” squares

From the yellow fabric, cut:
(2) 3 1/8” x 3 1/8” squares
(1) 3 ½” x 3 ½” square

From the light yellow fabric, cut:
(1) 3 ½” x 3 ½” square

From the background fabric, cut:
(4) 1 ½” x 2 ½” rectangles

Assembly

Flying Geese

Mark four dark purple 2″ squares in half diagonally once. Lay two dark purple marked squares over a light yellow 3 1/2″ square in diagonally opposite corners. Sew a quarter inch from the marked line on both sides. Cut apart and press.

Lay a dark purple square over the corner of the dark purple triangle. Sew a quarter inch from the marked line on both sides. Cut apart and press. Repeat with the other light yellow triangle.

Trim Flying Geese to 2 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ rectangle. Make 4.

Quarter Square Triangles

Mark the backs of the yellow 3 1/2″ squares in half diagonally once. Layer with a light purple 3 1/2″ square, right sides together. Sew a 1/4″ on both sides of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line to make two Half Square Triangles.

Mark the backs of one set of the half square triangles from corner to corner crossing the seam. Layer the marked Half Square Triangle right sides together with the other Half Square triangle with the colors opposite each other. Sew a 1/4″ on both sides of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line.

Trim to 2 1/2″ square. Make 1.

Split Quarter Square Triangles

Mark the backs of the purple 3 1/2″ squares in half diagonally once. Layer with a light purple 3 1/2″ square, right sides together. Sew a 1/4″ on both sides of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line to make two Half Square Triangles.

Mark the backs of the yellow 3 ⅛” squares from corner to corner. Layer a marked square with a purple/light purple half square triangle. Sew a 1/4″ on both sides of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line. Repeat with the remaining half square triangle.

Trim to 2 1/2″ square. Make 4 Split Quarter Square Triangles.

Block Assembly

Use the block diagram above to layout the block into three rows. Sew the units into rows.
Sew the rows together to complete the block.

Block measures 6 ½” x 6 ½” unfinished.
