Cutting Instructions

From the dark purple, cut:
(4) 2” x 2” squares

From the purple fabric, cut:
(2) 2” x 2” squares

From the light purple fabric, cut:
(2) 3 ½” x 3 ½” squares

From the dark yellow fabric, cut:
(4) 1 ½” x 1 ½” squares

From the yellow fabric, cut:
(2) 2” x 2” squares

From the light yellow fabric, cut:
(1) 3 ½” x 3 ½” square

From the background fabric, cut:
(4) 1 ½” x 1 ½” squares
(4) 2” x 2” squares
(1) 3 ½” x 3 ½” square

Assembly

Half Square Triangles

Mark the wrong side of the background 2” squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked background square over a deep purple 2” square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line.

Trim unit to 1 1/2” square. Make 4.

Repeat using the yellow and purple 2″ squares.
Trim units to 1 1/2″ square. Make 4.

Sew the yellow and purple Half Square Triangles together in sets of two following the diagram above for orientation. Sew the two sets together to complete the block center.
Unit measures 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ unfinished.

Quarter Square Triangles

Mark the wrong side of a background 3 1/2″ square in half diagonally once. Lay a marked background square over a light purple 3 1/2” square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line. Press seam towards the light purple.

Repeat with the light purple and light yellow 3 1/2″ squares.

Mark the wrong side of the background/light purple Half Square Triangles from corner to corner crossing the seam. Mark 1/4″ from both sides of the marked center line. Repeat so half of the Half Square Triangles are marked.

Layer a marked and unmarked Half Square Triangle right sides together, and pin. Sew on the marked 1/4″ lines. Cut apart on the marked center line to make two Quarter Square Triangles.  Repeat with the remaining Half Square Triangles to make 4 Quarter Square Triangles.

Trim to 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″.

Corner Units

Sew a 1 1/2″ background square to a dark purple/background Half Square Triangle. Make 4.

Sew a dark purple/background Half Square Triangle to a dark yellow 1 1/2″ square. Make 4.

Sew one of each of the two sets together as shown above to make a corner unit. Make 4.

Unit measures 2 1/2″ X 2 1/2″ unfinished.

Block Assembly

Use the block diagram above to layout the block into three rows. Sew the units into rows.

Sew the rows together to complete the block.

Block measures 6 ½” x 6 ½” unfinished.
