Cutting Instructions

From the dark purple, cut:
(4) 2” x 2” squares

From the purple fabric, cut:
(1) 3 ½” x 3 ½” squares
(1) 3” x 3” squares

From the light purple fabric, cut:
(1) 3” x 3” squares
(1) 3 ½” x 3 ½” squares

From the dark yellow fabric, cut:
(4) 1 ½” x 1 ½” squares

From the light yellow fabric, cut:
(4) 2” x 2” squares

From the background fabric, cut:
(2) 3” x 3” squares
(4) 1 ½” x 1 ½” squares

Assembly

Half Square Triangles

Mark the wrong side of the background 3” squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked background square over a light purple 3” square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line.

Trim unit to 2 1/2” square. Make 2.
Repeat with the background and purple 3″ squares. Make 2.

Small Half Square Triangles

Mark the wrong side of the light yellow 2” squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked light yellow square over a dark purple 2” square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line.

Trim unit to 1 1/2” square. Make 8.

Quarter Square Triangle

Mark the backs of the light purple 3 1/2″ squares in half diagonally once. Layer with a light purple 3 1/2″ square, right sides together. Sew a 1/4″ on both sides of the marked line.  Cut apart on the marked line to make two Half Square Triangles.

Mark the backs of one Half Square Triangle from corner to corner crossing the seam. Layer with the other Half Square Triangle right sides together with the colors opposite each other. Sew a 1/4″ on both sides of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line. 

Trim to 2 1/2″ square. Make 1 Quarter Square Triangles.

Corner Unit

Sew a light yellow/dark purple Half Square Triangle to a background 1 1/2″ square.
Sew a light yellow/dark purple Half Square Triangle to a dark yellow 1 1/2″ square.
Sew the two units together to make a Corner unit.

Unit measures 2 1/2″ square. Make 4.

Block Assembly

Use the block diagram above to layout the block into three rows. Sew the units into rows.

Sew the rows together to complete the block.

Block measures 6 ½” x 6 ½” unfinished.
