Video: David Taylor’s Beneath My Wing

Listen to the conversation between David Taylor and Bonnie Browning as he describes the making of Beneath My Wing, First Place award-winning quilt in the Small Wall Quilts—Pictorial category sponsored by Horn of America at AQS QuiltWeek – Paducah, Kentucky 2015.

David is known for telling quilters to “feel” the fabric and in this quilt, he imagined each feather, “feeling” the direction in which it should be quilted. In the video below, David talks about the different angles of quilting in the wings, the fabrics he used, and the order of placement of the fabric pieces.

The quilt (pictured below) took just over nine months to construct from start to finish, after he chose a photograph by Inge McDonald for inspiration.
