Cutting Instructions
From the teal fabric, cut:
(10) 2″ x 2″ squares
(4) 2½” x 2½” squares
(8) 2⅛” x 2⅛” squares
(4) 1½” x 2½” rectangles
(4) 1½” x 1½” squares
From the dark sky fabric, cut:
(4) 2″ x 2″ squares
(2) 2½” x 2½” squares
From the white fabric, cut:
(6) 2″ x 2″ squares
(2) 2½” x 2½” squares
(1) 1½” x 1½” square
Unit Assembly
Half Square Triangles (HST)
Mark the wrong side of the white 2″ squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked white square over a teal 2″ square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line.
Trim unit to 1½” square. Make 12.
Repeat to make 8 teal/dark sky HST.
Split Quarter Square Triangles (SQST)
Mark the backs of the teal 2½” squares in half diagonally once. Layer with a dark sky 2½” square, right sides together. Sew a 1/4″ on both sides of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line to make two Half Square Triangles.
Mark the backs of the teal 2⅛” squares from corner to corner. Layer a marked square with a teal/dark sky Half Square Triangle. Sew a 1/4″ on both sides of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line. Repeat with the remaining Half Square Triangles.
Trim to 1½” square. Make 8 Split Quarter Square Triangles.
Repeat to make 8 teal/white Split Quarter Square Triangles.
Block Assembly
Pinwheel Units
Using the above images as a guide, sew 4 HST together to make a Pinwheel unit.
Unit measures 2½” square. Make 2 teal/dark sky and 2 teal/white.
Split Quarter Square Triangle Units
Using the above image as a guide, sew a teal/white and a teal/dark sky SQST together.
Unit measures 2½” x rectangle. Make 4.
Block Center
Using the above diagram as a guide, sew the Pinwheel units, Split Quarter Square Triangle units, and the white 1½” square together into rows. Sew the rows together to complete the block center.
Block center measures 5½” square.
Side Units
Using the above image as a guide, sew a teal/white SQST to a teal 1½” x 2½” rectangle. Sew a teal/dark sky SQST to a teal 1½” x 1½” square. Sew the two units together to make a side unit.
Unit measures 1½” x 5½” rectangle. Make 2.
Sew the side units to the center block.
Block center measures 7½” x 5½” rectangle.
Using the above image, lay 2 teal/white HST, a teal/dark sky SQST, a teal/white SQST, a teal 1½” x 1½” square, and a teal 1½” x 2½” rectangle in a row. Sew together.
Unit measures 1½” x 7½”. Make 2.
Sew to the top and bottom to complete the block.
Block measures 7½” square.
