Block 1

7 1/2″ x 7 1/2″ unfinished

Cutting Instructions

From the teal fabric, cut:

(4) 2″ x 2″ squares
(4) 1½” x 2½” rectangles
(12) 1½” x 1½” squares
(8) 1″ x 1½” rectangles
(8) 1½” x 2″ rectangles

From the dark sky fabric, cut:

(2) 2″ x 2″ squares
(8) 1½” x 1½” squares

From the white fabric, cut:

(2) 2″ x 2″ squares
(4) 1½” x 2½” rectangles
(5) 1½” x 1½” squares

Assembly

Half Square Triangles (HST)

Mark the wrong side of the white 2″ squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked white square over a teal 2″ square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line.

Trim unit to 1½” square. Make 4.


Repeat with the dark sky and teal 2″ squares. Make 4.

Flying Geese

Mark the wrong side of the dark sky 1½” squares diagonally once. Lay a marked square on the corner of a teal 1½” x 2½” rectangle and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press. Repeat the process with a dark sky 1½” square on the other end of the triangle.

Unit measures 1½” x 2½” rectangle. Make 4.


Repeat with the teal 1½” squares and white 1½” x 2½” rectangles. Make 4 Flying Geese units.

Sew a teal 1″ x 1½” rectangle to each end of the white/teal Flying Geese units.

Unit measures 1½” x 3½” rectangle. Make 4.

Block Assembly

Sew a dark sky/teal HST to each side of a teal 1½” square using the above diagram as a guide for orientation. Make 2.
Sew a teal 1½” square to each side of a white 1½” square. Make 1.
Using the above diagram as a guide, layout the three rows. Sew together to complete the block center.
Unit measures 3½” x 3½” square.

Using the above diagram as a guide, sew a white/teal Flying Geese unit to each side of the block center.
Unit measures 5½” x 3½” rectangle.

Sew a white 1½” square to each end of a white/teal Flying Geese unit. Make 2.
Using the above diagram as a guide for orientation, sew a white/teal Flying Geese unit to the top and bottom of the block center.
Unit measures 5½” square.

Sew a teal 1½” x 2″ rectangle to each side of a teal/dark sky Flying Geese unit. Make 4.
Using the above diagram as a guide, sew a teal/dark sky Flying Geese unit to each side of the block center.
Unit measures 7½” x 5½” rectangle.

Using the above diagram as a guide, sew a white/teal HST to each end of a teal/dark sky Flying Geese unit. Make 2.
Sew to the top and bottom of the block.

Block measures 7½” x 7½” unfinished.
