Cutting Instructions

From the teal fabric, cut:
(4) 2″ x 2″ squares
(2) 2½”x 2½” squares
(16) 1″ x 1″ squares 8+8
(17) 1½” x 1½” squares 8
(4) 1″ x 2½” rectangles
(8) 1″ x 2″ rectangles
(8) 1″ x 1½” rectangles

From the dark sky, cut:
(2) 2″x 2″ squares
(4) 1½” x 1½” squares

From the white, cut:
(2) 2″ x 2″ squares
(4) 1″ x 1½” rectangles
(4) 1½” x 2½” rectangles
(4) 1½” x 1½” squares

Unit Assembly

Half Square Triangles

Mark the wrong side of the white 2″ squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked square over a teal 2″ square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line.


Trim unit to 1½” square. Make 4.

Mark the wrong side of the teal 2″ squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked square over a dark sky 2″ square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line.


Trim unit to 1½” square. Make 4.

Flying Geese

Mark the wrong side of a teal 1″ square diagonally once. Lay the marked square on the corner of a white 1″ x 1½” rectangle and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press. Repeat the process with a teal 1″ square on the other end of the triangle.

Unit measures 1″ x 1½” rectangle. Make 4.

Larger Flying Geese

Mark the wrong side of the teal 1½” squares diagonally once. Lay a marked square on the corner of a white 1½” x 2½” rectangle and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press. Repeat the process with a teal 1½” square on the other end of the triangle.

Unit measures 1½” x 2½” rectangle. Make 4.

 

Flip Units

Mark the wrong side of a teal 1” square diagonally once. Lay a marked square on the corner of a white 1½” square and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press.

Using the image above as a guide for orientation, repeat with a teal 1” square.

Unit measures 1½” square. Make 4.

 

Block Assembly

Middle Section

Sew a teal 1″ x 2½” rectangle to the top of the larger white/teal Flying Geese. Sew a teal 1″ x 2″ rectangle to each side of the unit.

Unit measures 3½” x 2″ rectangle. Make 4.

Sew a teal 1″ x 1½” rectangle to each side of a white/teal smaller Flying Geese unit. 

Sew the this unit to the bottom of the previous unit.

Unit measures 3½” x 2½” rectangle. Make 4.

Block Center

Using the image below as a guide, sew the teal 1½” square, dark sky/teal HST, and Flip units together in rows. Sew the rows together to create the block center.

Corner Section

Using the image below as a guide, sew a white/teal HST, two teal 1½” squares, and a dark sky 1½” square into rows. Sew the rows together to make the corner unit.

Unit measures 2½” square. Make 4.

Using the block image as a guide, layout the block sections. Sew the block sections together into rows. Sew the rows together to complete the block.

Block measure 7½” square unfinished.
