Cutting Instructions

From the teal fabric, cut:
(2) 2″ x 2″ squares
(24) 1″ x 1″ squares
(8) 1½” x 1½” squares
(1) 2½” x 2½” squares
(8) 1″ x 2″ rectangles
(8) 1″ x 1½” rectangles
(8) 1½” x  2″ rectangles

From the dark sky fabric, cut:
(4) 1½” x 2½” rectangles
(4) 1½” x 1½” squares

From the white fabric, cut:
(2) 2″ x 2″ squares
(4) 1″ x 1½” rectangles
(4) 1½” x 1½” squares
(4) 1″ x 1″ squares

Unit Assembly

Half Square Triangles

Mark the wrong side of the white 2″ squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked square over a teal 2″ square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line.

Trim unit to 1½” square. Make 4.

 

Small Flying Geese

Mark the wrong side of a teal 1″ square diagonally once. Lay the marked square on the corner of a white 1″ x 1½” rectangle and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press. Repeat the process with a teal 1″ square on the other end of the triangle.

Unit measures 1″ x 1½” rectangle. Make 4.

 

Large Flying Geese

Mark the wrong side of the teal 1½” squares diagonally once. Lay a marked square on the corner of a dark sky 1½” x 2½” rectangle and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press. Repeat the process with a teal 1½” square on the other end of the triangle.

Unit measures 1½” x 2½” rectangle. Make 4.

 

Small Square in a Square

Mark the wrong side of a teal 1” square diagonally once. Lay the marked square on the corner of a dark sky 1½” square and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press. Repeat on all four corners.

Unit measures 1½” square. Make 4.

 

Large Square in a Square

Mark the wrong side of a white 1½” square diagonally once. Lay the marked square on the corner of a teal 2½” square and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press. Repeat on all four corners.

Unit measures 2½” square. Make 1.

 

Kite Unit

Follow the numbered sequence to complete each unit using scraps of the teal and white fabrics.

Unit measures 1½” square. Make 4.

Block Assembly

Middle Section

Sew a white/teal Flying Geese unit to the top of a dark sky/teal Square in a square unit.

Unit measures 1 1/2″ x 2″ Make 4.

Sew a teal 1″ x 2″ rectangle to each side of the previous unit.

Unit measures 2 1/2″ x 2” rectangle. Make 4.

Sew a dark sky/teal Flying Geese unit to the previous unit to complete the Middle section.

Unit measures 2½” x 3″ rectangle. Make 4.

 

Corner Section

Sew a teal 1″ x 1½” rectangle to the side of a kite unit using the image below as a guide for orientation.

Sew a white 1″ square to the end of a teal 1″ x 1½” rectangle. Sew this to the bottom of the previous unit.

Unit measures 2″ square. Make 4.

Sew a teal  1½” x  2″ rectangle to the side of the Kite unit using the image below as a guide. 

Sew a white/teal HST to the end of a teal 1½” x 2″ rectangle. Sew to the top of the previous unit.

Unit measures 3″ square. Make 4.

 

Layout the sections and the remaining teal 1½” x 2″ rectangles using the block image as a guide. Sew the sections into rows. Sew the rows together to complete the block.

Block measures 7½” square.
