Cutting Instructions

From the teal fabric, cut:
(6) 2″ x 2″ squares
(4) 1½” x 1½” squares
(4) 1½” x 2½” rectangles
(1) 2½” x 2½” square
(2) 2⅛” x 2⅛” squares
(8) 1½” x 2″ rectangles
(8) 1″ x 1″ squares
(8) 1″ x 1½” rectangles

From the dark sky fabric, cut:
(4) 2″ x 2″ squares
(1) 1½” x 1½” square

From the white fabric, cut:
(2) 2″ x 2″ squares
(16) 1″ x 1″ squares
(8) 1½” x 1½” squares
(1) 2½” x 2½” squares

Unit Assembly

Half Square Triangles

Mark the wrong side of the white 2″ squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked square over a teal 2″ square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line.

Trim unit to 1½” square. Make 4.

Mark the wrong side of the teal 2″ squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked square over a dark sky 2″ square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line.

Trim unit to 1½” square. Make 8.

Flip Units

Mark the wrong side of a white 1″ square diagonally once. Lay a marked square on the corner of a teal 1½” square and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press. Repeat with another white 1″ square on an adjacent corner.

Unit measures 1½” square. Make 4.

Flying Geese

Mark the wrong side of the white 1½” squares diagonally once. Lay a marked square on the corner of a teal 1½” x 2½” rectangle and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press. Repeat the process with a white 1½” square on the other end of the triangle.

Unit measures 1½” x 2½” rectangle. Make 4.

Split Quarter Square Triangles

Mark the back of a white 2½” square in half diagonally once. Layer with a teal 2½” square, right sides together. Sew a ¼″ on both sides of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line to make two Half Square Triangles.
Mark the backs of the teal 2⅛” squares from corner to corner. Layer a marked square with a teal/white Half Square Triangle. Sew a ¼″ on both sides of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line. Repeat with the remaining Half Square Triangles.

Trim unit to 1½” square. Make 4.

Square Units

Sew a white 1″ square to a teal 1″ square. Sew a teal 1″ x 1½” rectangle to the top of the unit as shown below.

Unit measures 1½” square. Make 8.

Block Assembly

Corner Section

Sew a Square unit to a teal/dark sky HST as shown below. Make 2. Sew the units together as shown below.

Unit measures 2½” square. Make 4.

 

Middle Section

Sew a Flip unit to a SQST as shown below.

Unit measures 1½” x 2½” rectangle. Make 4.

Sides

Sew a teal 1½” x 2″ rectangle to each side of a teal/white Flying Geese.

Unit measures 1½” x 5½” rectangle. Make 4.

Top & Bottom

Sew a teal/white HST to each end of the two of the side units.

Putting it all Together

Sew the corner units to the sides of the middle unit. Make 2.
Sew a middle unit to each side of a dark sky 1½” square. Make 1.
Sew these rows together to complete the block center.
Sew the sides to the block center.
Finish by sewing the top and bottom units to the block.

Block measures 7½” square.
