Cutting Instructions
From the teal fabric, cut:
(2) 2″ x 2″ squares
(36) 1″ x 1″ squares
(8) 1″ x 1½” rectangles
(8) 1½” x 2½” rectangles
(4) 1″ x 2″ rectangles
(4) 1″ x 2½” rectangles
From the dark sky fabric, cut:
(5) 1½” x 1½” squares
(4) 1″ x 1″ squares
From the white fabric, cut:
(2) 2″ x 2″ squares
(4) 1″ x 1½” rectangles
(4) 1½” x 1½” square
Use scrap pieces of white and teal fabric for foundation paper pieced kite units.
You may wish to use scraps the following sizes (or use your preferred size):
White: (4) 2″ x 2½” rectangles
Teal: (8) 1¼” x 1¼” squares and (8) 1¾” x 2″ rectangles
Unit Assembly
Half Square Triangles
Mark the wrong side of the white 2″ squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked square over a teal 2″ square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line.
Unit measures 1½” square. Make 4.
Flying Geese
Mark the wrong side of a teal 1″ square diagonally once. Lay the marked square on the corner of a white 1″ x 1½” rectangle and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press. Repeat the process with a teal 1″ square on the other end of the triangle.
Unit measures 1″ x 1½” rectangle. Make 4
Square in a Square
Mark the wrong side of a teal 1” square diagonally once. Lay the marked square on the corner of a dark sky 1½” square and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press. Repeat on all four corners.
Unit measures 1½” square. Make 5.

Follow the numbered sequence to complete each unit using scraps of the teal and white fabrics.
Unit measures 1½” x 2″ rectangle. Make 4.
Block Assembly
Middle Sections
Sew a Flying Geese to a Square in a Square as shown below.
Unit measures 1½” x 2″ rectangle. Make 4.
Sew a kite unit to the bottom of the previous unit as shown below.
Unit measures 1½” x 3½” rectangle. Make 4
Corner Sections
Sew a teal 1″ x 1½” rectangle to the side of a white 1½” square. Sew a teal 1″ x 1½” rectangle to the side of a dark sky 1″ square. Sew the two units together as shown below.
Unit measures 2″ square. Make 4.
Sew a teal 1″ x 2″ rectangle to the side of the previous unit. Sew a teal 1″ x 2½” rectangle to the bottom as shown below.
Unit measures 2½” square. Make 4.
Sew a teal 1½” x 2½” rectangle to side of the previous unit. Sew a teal 1½” x 2½” rectangle to a teal/white Half Square Triangle. Sew to the top as shown below.
Unit measures 3½” square. Make 4.
Using the image below as a guide, layout the block sections. Sew the sections into rows and then sew the rows together to complete the block.
Block measures 7½” square.
