These days, with electronic designing, rotary cutting, and machine quilting, our favorite projects are often done individually. But wait! What about all of the buzz that quilters used to create when they got together?
Welcome to The Bee, with a nod to quilting bees that are (sadly) not so common any more. It’s a place for newsy bits and pieces, threads of stories, and links to lots more! Wherever you see an underlined, highlighted word, click it to find out more.
The AQS Buzz
The AQS show staff is in Syracuse right now! It’s the first time that we’ve hosted an AQS QuiltWeek in Syracuse. The word is out that some of the staff made a night trek to Niagara Falls after unloading the truck. They make the most of every minute!
We’re excited about the unveiling of iQuilt…it’s almost time! The instructor lineup is and will continue to be simply incredible. Go to iQuilt.com and find out how to be among the first to know who’s in the opening lineup of great quilters. It’s your chance to learn from the best!
The distinctive, tropical exhibit A Small Miracle of a Southern Island: Quilts of Caohagan is at The National Quilt Museum through October 13, 2015. Like National Quilt Museum CEO Frank Bennett says, “Caohagan’s quilters are a testament to not only the power of quilting, but the power of community.”
Remember Diana, the young Girl Scout who was planning to make 16 quilts in the next three years? She has already hit 28 with YOUR help! She’s a fine example of sharing the quilt love!
Another update: The Back Porch Stitcher is currently working on Rosette #2. After quizzing facebook friends and receiving some great suggestions, the stitching continues on another pretty jewel-tone EPP circle of fun! (You’ll be seeing more EPP stitching tips soon.) Completed #1 is toward the back, #2 in the front, and more fabrics for three more rows are stacked and ready!
It’s fun to share work on facebook and see what your friends say. You know AQS has a facebook page, right? “Like” us and find tips, giveaways, news, patterns…and SALES!
Quilt Photo of the Week
The Bee buzzed through some online photos and landed on this one:
Can’t you feel the breeze blowing on this porch? It’s from The Northern Light, the online newspaper of Blaine and Birch Bay, Washington. It was their Photo of the Week this week! The event was The Semiahmoo Quilting Guild’s “Quilt Around the Corner and Down the Block.” More than 150 quilts were shown at three local homes to benefit a local high school.
Cook Something (while you stitch)!
From the recipe section on AmericanQuilter.com, here’s an easy crockpot Mac and Cheese! Just the thing to put in the crockpot when quilting is your priority. No, you probably shouldn’t make it every day. (*Wink!*) Your family needs a little more variety than that! And they’ll think you are amazing because it’s not out of that little blue box.
I’ll be back with more recipes that you can make in a flash to save your precious time.
Time for this Bee to buzz on to the next project! Happy stitching, quilting friends.
