The last few weeks have been so hot! It’s hard for me to believe summer is “officially over.” But it must be over—kids are back in school, and the Christmas decorations are on display at Costco.
Some of my friends have even started their holiday shopping. While for me, last-minute shopping emergencies are as much a part of the holiday season as the tree and the turkey—I know it’s high time to start those handmade presents. I suggest you check out Alex’s pattern, Love thy Neighbor, in the October issue of TQL if you’re casting about for a gift idea. You know how much Alex loves redwork embroidery! She’s created a delightful red-and-white pillow that could be just the thing for someone on your gift list. It’s not ruffley and fussy—the pillow has an easy-to-make tailored flange edge that I just love.
Besides—hand embroidery is the perfect thing to do if you have a chance to sit outside and savor the last of the summer weather…Jan Magee, The Quilt Life
