Stockholm Star: Step 12: Basting

There’s no need to spend a day on your knees basting a quilt on the floor. For a small quilt like this, Irene Berry, who is quilting Stockholm Star, clears off her worktable (for a larger quilt she might push two tables together). Large binder clips from the office supply secure the stretched backing fabric to the table. The batting and top don’t have to be pulled as tight, but Irene adds a few more clips to keep them in place. This will be an easy quilt to baste, because it’s obvious where the pins should go.

When you need to baste a bigger quilt, try throwing a party. Enlist the help of a friend or two with a promise of lunch or libations (no libations ’til after the basting)…Jan Magee, The Quilt Life

Clips hold the layers in place.
