AQS author Rami Kim’s exceptional talent blossoms with innovative designs. She is passionate about wearable quilted art and one-of-a-kind home décor. Three-dimensional textures and exciting colors blend with traditional sewing techniques, giving her work an exquisite edge!
Rami’s first book, Folded Fabric Elegance, published by AQS in 2007, concentrates on her 3-D texturing techniques and projects. Her second book, Quilted Elegance (AQS, 2009) focused on reversible wearable arts, bags, and two-sided quilts. In Elegant Cotton Wool Silk Quilts (AQS, 2012), Rami works in cotton, wool, and silk, allowing the fibers to reflect both Eastern and Western reverence for all things natural. Centuries of Asian art and culture provide the design inspiration for the six one-of-a-kind fabric projects in the book.
Let Rami show you how to make adorable, one-of-a-kind dolls with quilts to match! Rami’s fourth book with AQS, Friendship Dolls to Sew and Quilt, is now available! It’s another look at her ability to create delightful three-dimensional fabric designs.
Rami was a DNA scientist. She turned in her lab coat to become a fabric artist—and we are so happy she did!
She graduated from Seoul National University and the University of California in San Francisco with degrees in chemistry and molecular endocrinology. She then put her scientific talent to work for the Cancer Research Institute at the University of California before her passion and talent in fabric art drastically changed her successful career in biochemistry.
She says she’d “rather spend more time with beautiful fabrics and threads and beads than with DNA sequencing gels and radioactive isotopes of cold, gray science.”
We’re excited to announce that Rami is a teacher who will be featured soon on iquilt.com! We had a wonderful time with Rami during the shooting of her iquilt.com classes. Here are a few sneak preview shots from her website. Hint: bags with 3-D features!
