During the AQS QuiltWeek® – Lancaster, Pennsylvania 2014 event, we received a post on our facebook page from Elizabeth Tirella Lee. Elizabeth posted: “Thank you for wonderful experience at AQS Lancaster. It was a great learning experience and thoroughly enjoyed the friendly atmosphere with my 8-year-old and mother-in-law.” She also shared a photo of her daughter, Emily, looking very happy beside a Handi Quilter longarm quilting machine that she had just used for the first time!
Elizabeth also told me that Emily quilts by hand and uses her Kenmore. Emily loved the longarm and her mother thinks she is already addicted to quilting. This is one addiction her mother will definitely nurture.
Emily’s addiction began two years ago at the age of six when she made her first hand-embroidered quilt square. Her Girl Scout troop did a 50 state swap. This past Thanksgiving Emily made a turkey appliqué table mat. She did the cutting and hand quilting herself.
Elizabeth and Emily are from Pennsylvania so they didn’t have too far to travel. This was Emily’s third quilt show but her first AQS QuiltWeek event. Elizabeth stated that she is happy to see all the support for Emily.
You may be wondering what Emily’s next project will be. Well, she is already planning a full-size Inner Cat quilt. She is collecting fabric and Elizabeth has noticed that her own scraps seem to be disappearing. Hmm, maybe mom better lock up her stash, lol.
We hope to see more of Emily’s quilting in the future…maybe even in an AQS contest.
