Fabric Requirements:
Background – 1 yard
Gold – 1/2 yard
Orange – 3/4 yard
Brown – 1/2 yard
Backing – 2 1/2 yards
Binding – 1/3 yard
Cutting Instructions:
From the background fabric, cut:
(70) 3″ x 3″ squares
(70) 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ squares
From the gold fabric, cut:
(70) 3″ x 3″ squares
From the orange fabric, cut:
(35) 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ squares
(2) 2 1/2″ x 42 1/2″ strips
(2) 2 1/2″ x 34 1/2″ strips
From the brown fabric, cut:
(70) 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ squares
(3) 1″ x width of fabric strips, sew together and make 1/4″ into bias tape (not actually from bias)
Instructions:
Half Square Triangles
Mark on the wrong side of the 3″ background squares on the diagonal once. Layer a marked background square right sides together with a 3″ gold square and sew a quarter inch from both sides of the marked line. Cut apart and press to the gold.
Trim to 2 1/2″ square. Make 140.
Leaf Stems
Using a zigzag stitch, secure the brown bias down the center of 35 background 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ squares from corner to corner. Trim to match the corners of the square.
Make 35.
Block Assembly
Layout the squares, Half Square Triangles, and stem unit into rows using the block diagram below as a guide.
Sew the rows together. Sew the rows together into blocks.
Make 35 blocks.
Unfinshed block measures 6 1/2″ square.
Quilt Assembly
Using the quilt diagram above, layout the blocks into turning them as desired or follow the pattern above.
Sew the blocks into rows. Sew the rows together to complete the quilt center.
Sew the orange 2 1/2″ x 42 1/2″ borders to the sides of the quilt.
Sew the orange 2 1/2″ x 34 1/2″ borders to the top and bottom of the quilt.
Quilt as desired and bind.
