Where does life in the everyday world cease to exist? For quilters “in the business,” it’s at the International Quilt Market in Houston each year, where brains become quilt-consumed and talk turns to little but the subject at hand. Friends are made and old friends reacquaint. AQS had a happy, hectic, wonderful time.
E-I-E-I-O!! The spotlight was on our fabulous Ms. MacDonald’s Farm Quilt Block of the Month Pattern—so we took her farm with us!
Hens and roosters perched all over the place.
International Quilt Market 2013 was held Saturday, October 26 through Monday, October 28. Friday, the 25th, was Schoolhouse day—a day FULL of opportunities to enrich your local shop owners’ knowledge of hundreds of products and books. Dr. Peggy Rhodes and Julia C. Wood (Quick & Easy Hexie Quilts), Carl Hentsch (Stars ‘N Strips Forever), Karen Gloeggler (whose book, Jane Austin Quilts Inspired by her Novels, will be out within the next few weeks), and Linda Hahn (New York Beauty Diversified) “showed their stuff,” answered questions, and had fun getting to know Schoolhouse attendees.
Suzan Ellis of AQS presented Linda Hahn with her latest Gold Award from Living Now Book Awards: Crafts/Hobbies/Collecting category.
Of course, AQS Publishing brought SO many books to offer wholesale market visitors—and we enjoyed meeting all the quilters who visited from around the world as they stopped by our booth to check out “what’s new” and to chat with the authors who autographed their books during market.
Jody Anderson (Easy Sew Jelly Roll Bags) came from Australia for a book signing; Dr. Peggy Rhodes, Julia C. Wood, Carl Hentsch, and Linda Hahn also welcomed quilters, spoke with each of them personally, and were happy to autograph free books.
After four busy Market days, the AQS gang was tired but happy! Be sure to check out our latest products (including Ms. MacDonald’s farm!) at your local quilt shop when their new books, fabric, and patterns arrive. We’ll be sharing many new things with you in the coming weeks and months; new books, new products, new ideas that we gathered at Market. I can’t wait to get to my sewing room and put some of that inspiration into creative action! – AH
