Even though these Nine Patches can see their shadow, this quilt promises six more weeks of snuggles!

Punxsutawney’s Nine Patch

38″ x 38″

 

Fabric Requirements

Black – 2/3 yd (includes binding)

White – 1 1/8 yd

Dark Gray – 1/4 yd

Light Gray – 1/4 yd

Cutting Instructions

From the black fabric, cut:

(80) 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ black squares

From the white fabric, cut:

(73) 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ white squares

(32) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ white squares

(24) 2 1/2″ x 7 1/2″ white rectangles

(2) 2 1/2″ x 34 1/2″ white strips

(2) 2 1/2″ x 38 1/2″ white strips

From the dark grey fabric, cut:

(16) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ dark gray squares

(48) 2 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ dark gray rectangles

From the light gray fabric, cut:

(32) 2 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ light gray rectangles

 

Block Assembly

Sew the (4) 2 1/2″ white squares and (5) 2 1/2″ black squares together into a Nine Patch.

Sew a 1 1/2″ white square to a 2 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ dark gray rectangle.

Sew this unit to a 2 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ light gray rectangle. Add a 1 1/2″ dark gray square to the end. This makes the bottom unit.

Sew the bottom unit to the bottom of the Nine Patch.

Create the side unit by sewing a 1 1/2″ white square to a 2 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ dark gray rectangle.

Sew this unit to a 2 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ light gray rectangle. Add a 2 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ dark gray rectangle to the end. This makes the side unit.

Sew the side unit to the right side of the block.

Trim the block to 7 1/2″ X 7 1/2″. Make 16.

 

Quilt Assembly

Sew the 2 1/2″ x 7 1/2″ white rectangles between each block to create the rows.

Sew the 2 1/2″ x 7 1/2″ white rectangles to the 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ white squares to create the horizontal sashing.

Sew the rows and sashing together to create the quilt center.

Add the 2 1/2″ x 34 1/2″ side borders.

Add the 2 1/2″ x 38 1/2″ top and bottom borders.

Quilt as desired and bind.
