This month for the Quilt 2018 quilt style we are playing with one-patch quilts. The Apple Core is a popular one-patch that lends itself to some playful curve piecing. Gather up your favorite fat quarter and give this quick quilt a try. It would make an adorable and fun baby quilt!
Giant Apple Core Quilt
42″ x 42″
Select 9 different fat quarters
Fabric A – 1 yard
Fabric B – 3/4 yard
Binding – 1/2 yard or 195″ of bias binding
Print actual size in Poster mode. Select cut marks with a 1/2″ overlap. Tape pattern together and cut out.
Iron the fat quarters and use the template to cut an Apple Core from each.
Layout the Apple Core pieces into a 3 x 3 grid design, nesting the curves into each other.
Starting with the top row, sew the top of Apple Core 2 in the side of Apple Core 1.
To piece the curved edges together, start by pinning right sides together at the edges, then pin the middle. Finally, pin the spaces in between.
Sew along the curved edge, removing pins as you go.
Complete the top row by sewing the bottom of Apple Core 2 into the side of Apple Core 3.
Repeat for the remaining rows, alternating the apple core pattern.
Sew the rows together to complete the quilt.
Quilt as desired and bind with bias binding.
Be sure to show off your project on our Facebook Group, AQS Project Parade. We love to see your latest creations!
