Gathering Quilt

Fabric Requirements
White – 2¼ yards
Olive – 1¾ yards
Coral – 1½ yards
Gold – 1½ yards
Dark Green – 1½ yards
Backing – 8⅝ yards
Binding – ⅔ yard
Cutting Instructions
From the white fabric, cut:
(2) 17½″ x 17½″
(20) 9″ x 9″
(4) 8½″ x 8½″
From the olive fabric, cut:
(1) 17½″ x 17½″
(8) 9″ x 9″
(8) 8½″ x 8½″
From the coral fabric, cut:
(1) 16½″ x 16½″
(4) 9″ x 9″
(2) 8½″ x 32½″
(2) 8½″ x 16½″
From the gold fabric, cut:
(1) 17½″ x 17½″
(10) 9″ x 9″
From the dark green fabric, cut:
(18) 9″ x 9″
Unit Assembly
Half Square Triangles (HST)
Mark the wrong side of the white 9″ squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked square over a dark green 9″ square, right sides together.
Sew ¼″ from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line. Trim unit to 8½″ square. Make 32 dark green/white HST.
Repeat to make the following 8½″HST:
- (16) Olive/Gold
- (8) Coral/White
- (4) Dark Green/Gold
Repeat with the white, olive, and gold 17½″ [13½″] squares, but skip the trimming step, to make the following HST for the next unit:
- (2) Olive/White
- (2) Gold/White
Quarter Square Triangles (QST)
Mark the wrong side of one of the gold/white HSTs from the previous step in half diagonally once. Lay a marked HST over an olive/white HST with opposite colors facing each other. Sew ¼″ from each side of the marked line.
Cut apart on the marked line to make 2 gold/white/olive QST. Trim QST unit to 16½″ square. Make 4 QST.
Square In A Square
Mark the wrong side of the white 8½″ squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked square over the coral 16½″ square, right sides together.
Sew on the marked line. Trim a ¼″ seam and press. Repeat on all the corners. Square in a Square unit measures 16½″ x 16½″ unfinished.
Top Left Double Row
Referring to the diagram below, arrange the following pieces as shown. An olive 8½″ square, three olive/gold HST, a dark green/gold HST, a coral/white HST, and two dark green/white HST.
Sew the pieces together into two rows, then sew the rows together. The unit measures 16½″ x 32½ unfinished. Make 2 Top Left Double Rows.
Top Right Double Row
Referring to the diagram below, arrange the following pieces as shown. An olive 8½″ square, three olive/gold HST, a dark green/gold HST, a coral/white HST, and two dark green/white HST.
Sew the pieces together into two rows, then sew the rows together. The unit measures 16½″ x 32½″ unfinished. Make 2 Top Right Double Rows.
Row Assembly
Row A
Referring to the diagram below, arrange the following pieces as shown. Two olive 8½″squares, and eight dark green/white 8½″ HST.
Sew the pieces into a row. Row A measures 8½″ x 80½″ unfinished. Make 2.
Row B
Referring to the diagram below, arrange the following pieces as shown. A top left double row, a top right double row, and a QST unit.
Sew the pieces into a row. Row B measures 16½″ x 80½″ unfinished. Make 2.
Row C
Referring to the diagram below, arrange the following pieces as shown. Two dark green/white 8½″ HST, two olive/gold 8½″ HST, two coral/white 8½″ HST, and a coral 8½″ x 32½″ rectangle.
Sew the pieces into a row. Row C measures 8½″ x 80½″ unfinished. Make 2.
Row D
Referring to the diagram below, arrange the following pieces as shown. Four dark green/white 8½″HST, two QST, two coral 8½″ x 16½″ rectangles, and the Square in a Square unit.
Sew the dark green/white HST into pairs. Sew the pieces into a row. Row D measures 16½″ x 80½″ unfinished. Make 1.
Quilt Assembly
Following the diagram below, arrange the rows as shown. Sew the rows together to complete the quilt center.
Gathering quilt measures 80½″ x 80½″ unfinished. Quilt as desired and bind using your preferred method.
