Free Pattern: Gathering Quilt

80″ x 80″

Fabric Requirements:

Salmon – 2 1/8 yards
Lt. Salmon – 1 yard
Sage – 1 1/4 yards
Lt. Sage – 3/4 yard
Background – 2 1/8 yards
Binding – 1/3 yard

Cutting Instructions:

From the salmon fabric, cut:
(4) 8 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ squares
(26) 9″ x 9″ squares for half square triangles

From the lt. salmon ray fabric, cut:
(12) 9″ x 9″ squares for half square triangles

From the sage fabric, cut:
(2)  9″ x 9″ squares for half square triangles
(4) 16 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ rectangles
(2) 17″ x 17″ squares, cut in half diagonally once

From the lt. sage fabric, cut:
(4) 8 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ squares
(6) 9″ x 9″ squares

From the background fabric, cut:
(26) 9″ x 9″ squares for half square triangles
(4) 9″ x 9″ squares, cut in half diagonally once

Assembly:

Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the backside of one of the half square triangle (HST) 9″ block sets as follows:

  •  16 Background and 16 Salmon 9″ squares yields 32 HSTs.
  •  4 Background and 4 Lt. Salmon 9″ squares yields 8 HSTs.
  •  4 Background and 4 Lt. Sage 9″ squares yields 8 HSTs.
  •  2 Background and 2 Sage 9″ squares yields 4 HSTs.
  •  8 Salmon and 8 Lt. Salmon 9″ squares yields 16 HSTs.
  •  2 Salmon and 2 Lt. Sage 9″ squares yields 4 HSTs.

For each set, lay the marked 9″ square on the unmarked 9″ square, right sides together.

Sew a 1/4″ seam on each side of the diagonal line.

Cut on the diagonal line.

Press the half square triangles and trim evenly to 8 1/2″.

Following the diagram below, sew the sections together and the sections into a quilt!

Quilt as desired and bind.
