Free Pattern: Betsey’s Butterfly Block

The final block in the AQS Vintage Block series is #9, Betsey’s Butterfly. We hope you’ve enjoyed this nostalgic look at patterns from the past redesigned with modern piecing techniques in mind.

Betsey’s Butterfly was inspired by a butterfly block that appearing in Aunt Kate’s Quilting Bee, a magazine for quilt lovers published by Glenna Boyd of Burleson, Texas, from 1962 until 1979. Aunt Kate’s Quilting Bee was the precursor to the quilting magazines of today. It had a friendly, chatty style and contained quilt patterns from several sources, including her own designs. Thanks to Quilting Bear Gal for that tidbit.

Confusing page requirements. I cannot get to the free Butterfly pattern.

Hi Lee. I have sent some instructions on how to access to PDF to your email address. I hope this is helpful. Let me know if you need anything else. Sylvia Thomas, Social Media Manager.

Will there be anymore patterns in this series or just these 9 blocks?

Hi Carol! Our designer of this series, Betsey Langford, is hoping to add some more blocks. Her plan right now is to make this a yearly series around August. Between now and then, she is sure to come up with some great block ideas. We’re glad you enjoyed the vintage blocks and hope you also enjoy all the other patterns and blog posts on QuiltViews. ~ Sylvia Thomas, AQS Social Media Manager
