5 Reasons Quilters Love Northern Indiana’s Amish Country
1). We love quilters
Our quilters span generations . . . take pride in heirloom-quality . . . invite lasting friendships. You could say the same for Northern Indiana’s Amish Country. Pursue your quilting passions here and share some of ours: Handcraftsmanship, Amish heritage and Hoosier hospitality – all stitched into the rural beauty and welcoming communities of the nationally-recognized Heritage Trail.
2). Quilt Shops? We’ve got lots!
Browse an array of pattern possibilities at Calico Point in Goshen (Amish quilters will serve you), the nostalgia-laced Yoder Department Store (with over 10,000 bolts of fabric), and one of our favorites, Gohn Brothers in downtown Middlebury, where quilters can stock up on quilting supplies in a shop that’s been serving the locals since 1904. There are over 20 quilt shops in Northern Indiana’s Amish Country to help you piece your next quilt to perfection.
3). Visitors come from all over the world to see our Quilt Gardens
We’ve taken our love for quilts to an entirely new level with supersized, quilt-patterned gardens, each in a distinctive design. All are hand “sown” with thousands of brightly colored annuals. You’ve never seen quilts this big (the largest measures 3,200-square-feet!) and settings this distinctive. And you won’t find these blooming beauties anywhere else. See all 19 Quilt Gardens free through September in Bristol, Elkhart, Goshen, Middlebury, Nappanee, Shipshewana and Wakarusa.
4). We’re Home to the Real Indiana Amish Country Housewives
Dine in an Amish home. Join an Amish quilting bee. Get the inside scoop on Amish weddings. Groups of 10 or more can with customized behind-the-scenes itineraries that reveal the “Real” Indiana Amish Country Housewives! For details, visit AmishCountryTours.org or call 800.262.8161.
5). It’s one delicious destination
Platters of piping hot fried chicken? You’ve come to the right place. Bowls brimming with savory sides? Got ‘em. Soft-as-a-cloud cinnamon apple bread still warm from the oven? Check.
