“Dazzling,” Award Winning Quilts to Make Debut at The Decorative Arts Center of Ohio
“Circular Abstractions: Bull’s Eye Quilts,” exhibition, curated by quilt-maker and artist, Nancy Crow, to open in February, 2017
Beginning February 4, 2017, The Decorative Arts Center of Ohio is excited to announce it will display the “Circular Abstractions: Bull’s Eye Quilts” exhibition. These award-winning quilts are based on the work of legendary, world-renowned quilt-maker, Nancy Crow, who will curate this family-friendly exhibition.
The exhibit, which will feature the work of artists from countries spanning the globe—including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, and the United States — will display some of the most innovative quilts being done today. The juried invitational exhibition features 51 quilts by an array of artists that improvise around the Bull’s Eye Pattern; a four quadrant design with a bull’s eye at the center of each quarter. Color and design become the focus of the dazzling display inspired by Crow.
Asked about the upcoming exhibit, Crow exclaimed, “I’m absolutely thrilled that the DECORATIVE ARTS CENTER OF OHIO will be exhibiting these 51 large quilts! I spent the last two years putting this exhibition together, so it makes me very proud that an Ohio institution will be the first to showcase it after it leaves Michigan and the Muskegon Museum of Art where it originated.” She continued, “The huge range of colors and dynamic energy is some of the best seen on quilts in some time, so I urge the public to come see what is happening in contemporary quilt-making today!”
Crow, who earned both her BFA from The Ohio State University in 1965, and a MFA in Ceramics and Weaving in 1969, is a teacher, as well as curator and artist. After years developing her work to reach her current stature and influence in the world of quilt-making and design, she is proud to share it with so many quilt enthusiasts.
The Curator Talk with Nancy Crow will be on Sunday, April 2 at 2:00 pm. “Circular Abstractions: Bull’s Eye Quilts” will exhibit at the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio, in Lancaster, from February 4, 2017, through April 23, 2017. Admission is free Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.
The Decorative Arts Center is housed in the Reese-Peters House, 145 E. Main Street in Lancaster’s Historic District.
