Block 6

8” x 8” finished

Cutting Instructions

From the cream fabric, cut:
(1) 5” x 5”
(4) 3” x 3”
(2) 2 ½” x 4 ½”
(1) 2 ½” x 2 ½”

From the tan fabric, cut:
(1) 5” x 5”
(2) 3” x 3”
(4) 2 ½” x 2 ½”

From the orange fabric, cut:
(1) 3” x 3”

From the teal fabric, cut:
(1) 3” x 3”

Unit Assembly

Half Square Triangle (HST)
Mark the wrong side of the cream 3” squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked cream square over an orange 3” square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line. Trim unit to 2 ½” square.

Repeat to make the following 2 ½” HST:

  • (2) Orange/Cream
  • (4) Tan/Cream
  • (1) Teal/Cream (One of the two made will be extra.)

Repeat the same process with the 5” cream and tan squares. Trim the HST to 4 ½” square. One of the two made will be extra.

Flying Geese
Mark the wrong side of a tan 2 ½” square in half diagonally once. Lay a marked square right sides together with a cream 2 ½” x 4 1⁄2” rectangle, oriented as shown below. Sew on the marked line. Trim excess a quarter inch from the sewn line and press. Repeat on the other side with another marked tan 2 ½” square.

Make 2. Flying Geese unit measures 2 ½” x 4 ½” unfinished.

Block Assembly

Lower Left Corner Unit
Arrange 2 tan/cream HSTs, 1 teal/cream HST, and a cream 2 ½” square as shown below.

Sew in pairs and then sew the pairs together. Lower Left Corner unit measures 4 ½” square.

Upper Left Corner Unit
Sew together a tan/cream HST and an orange/cream HST as shown below.

Sew the HST row to a cream/tan Flying Geese unit as shown to make the Upper Left Corner unit. Unit measures 4 ½” square.

Lower Right Corner Unit
Sew together a tan/cream HST and an orange/cream HST as shown below.

Sew the HST row to a cream/tan Flying Geese unit as shown to make the Lower Right Corner unit. Unit measures 4 ½” square.

Use the block diagram below to layout the block into rows.

Sew the units into rows.
Sew the rows together to complete the block.
Block measures 8 ½” x 8 ½” unfinished.
