Countdown to Paducah 2018: Block Sixteen

Cutting Instructions:

From the white fabric, cut:

(4) 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles

(8) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ squares

(8) Scraps for foundation piecing larger than 1 1/2″ square

(2) Scraps for foundation piecing larger than 1 1/4″ square

(2) Scraps for foundation piecing larger than 2″ square

(4) Scraps for foundation piecing larger than 2″ x 2 1/4″ 

 

From the dark blue fabric, cut:

(8) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ squares

(8) Scraps for foundation piecing larger than 1 1/4″ square

(8) Scraps for foundation piecing larger than 1 1/2″ square

 

From the light blue fabric, cut:

(4) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ squares

(4) 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ squares

(4) Scraps for foundation piecing larger than 1 1/4″ square

 

From the dark purple fabric, cut:

(10) Scraps for foundation piecing larger than 1 1/4″ square

Instructions:

Four Patch for Center

Use the foundation paper piecing patterns to complete the two patch units. Make two white and light blue and two dark purple and light blue.

Sew the units together to make four patches using the block assembly diagram below as a guide.

Center

Use the foundation paper piecing patterns, sew the white square to the four patch unit. Make 2.

Sew the two parts together to make the center of the block. Use the block assembly diagram below as a guild.

Use the foundation paper piece patterns to make the corner units.

Sew the corner units to the center unit to complete the center of the block. Use the block assembly diagram below as a guide.

The center measures 4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″

Side Triangles

Paper piece the each of the side triangle units.

The side units each measure 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″.

Using the assembly diagram below, finish piecing the block.
