Cutting Instructions

From the red fabric, cut:
(1) 3½” x 3½”
(2) 3⅛” x 3⅛”

From the green fabric, cut:
(1) 3½” x 3½”
(12) 1½” x 2½”

From the cream fabric, cut:
(5) 2½” x 2½”
(28) 1½” x 1½”

Unit Assembly

Flying Geese

Mark the wrong side of the cream 1½” square in half diagonally once. Lay the marked square right sides together with a green 1½” x 2½” rectangle, oriented as shown below. Sew on the marked line. Trim excess a quarter inch from the sewn line and press.

Repeat on the other side with another marked cream 1½” square. Make 12 cream/green Flying Geese units.

Split Quarter Square Triangles (Split QST)

Mark the backs of the red 3½″ squares in half diagonally once. Layer with a green 3½″ square, right sides together. Sew a 1/4″ from both sides of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line to make 2 Half Square Triangles (HST).

Mark the backs of the red 3⅛” squares from corner to corner. Layer a marked square with a red/green HST with the marked line intersecting the seam. Sew a 1/4″ from both sides of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line. Repeat with the remaining HST and red 3⅛” square.

Trim to 2 1/2″ square. Make 4 red/green/red Split QST.

Block Assembly

Use the block diagram above to layout the block into five rows. Sew the units into rows.

Sew the rows together to complete the block.

Block measures 8½” x 8½” unfinished.

Block 15 has wrong piecing directions. it should say place 1.5 cream squares on 1.5×2.5 green
