Dating Fabrics by Eileen Jahnke Trestain is back in print!
This informative and easy to use handbook should prove valuable whether you are a curious quilter, a fabric collector, quilt collector, or an accomplished historian. Have a quilt, block, or cloth scrap to identify? The thousands of fabric swatches presented in this guide book can help you determine a date of manufacture and something of the history of the piece. The samples represent fabrics made in the Americas from 1800 to 1960.
If you know an approximate date of a piece, you can turn to that section and compare the swatches to your fabric. A swatch may be included under the color it once was, the color it is now, or possibly both. All swatches are printed actual size so you can see the pattern scale. Unfamiliar terms are defined in a glossary, and a substantial bibliography points the way to further reading and study.
